You know if there is a Dior shadow palette that includes taupe I'm gonna be all over it. So when Dior came out with the 3 Couleurs Smoky Ready-To-Wear Smoky Eyes Palette in Smoky Brown I was all over that palette like white on rice.
Let's see. Dior Shadows are soft has heck. Super silky and insanely pigmented. They are always packaged well and they last forever on the eyes. Um yeah. I had to have it.
So let's see whats so awesome about this palette, shall we? The packaging = Awesome. Slide back the top and a mirror pops up and the shadows are revealed. Tres chic! Oh yeah, and according to Dior "This three-color eye shadow harmony helps you create catwalk smoky eyes in three easy steps. The slide-out palette features an extremely blendable base that perfectly preps and colors the eyelid, while the eye shadows offer different effects: matte for a natural ready-to-wear style or shiny for a glamorous, couture style."
OK. Before I go forward let me explain a few things.
I will never ever be mistaken for a model so a "catwalk look" isn't what I need. There was this one time back in 1998 when this dude approached me at a mall and asked me if I was a model tho. He gave me his card and told me he was a photographer. He said I could do modeling and I should call him. Uh yeah. Right. That totally reminded me of the scene in Fame where Irene Cara's character, Coco, is approached in a diner by a porno filmmaker (Steve Inwood) claiming to be a director. The rest of the story does not end well.
So the Dior palette comes with a beautiful base color that is a satin finish and looks to be a cool beigey grey. (The swatches make it look warmer than it really is) Realistically one could use this as a base color and a highlight but it's slightly too dark for my fair skin to work as a highlight. The shimmery taupe is just that. VERY shimmery and very pretty. The matte brown is a wonderful liner and crease color (if using the taupe as an all over base color) it also works well in the outer V of the eye. The matte shadow is soft and smooth and richly pigmented. It is one of THE NICEST matte shadows I have ever used. It's not chalky and it covers evenly. If all matte shadows were this nice I would own a ton of them.
Do you NEED this? Well at $48 a pop it's not a MUST HAVE. Although the quality is excellent, you probably have similar colors in your collection already. However if one were to purchase through a specific store that may or may not be having a 20% off discount until the 2nd of November, then one might reason that $38.40 is a more tolerable amount to spend ($12 per shadow).
