Kat von D for Sephora Foiled Love Lipstick in Adora Review Pictures Swatches

It's a short week for most Americans, what with Thanksgiving coming up this Thursday, but that does not deter me from having a Red Lips Week here on the Pink Sith blog.  In fact, I have amassed so many red lipsticks lately that I have actually split my Red Lips Week into two different weeks.  This week I will focus on Red Lips for $18 and less.  That's right. Bright, beautiful and bold red lips for under $20...many are under $10...but I'm getting ahead of myself.

Red Lips Week will feature a new red lip product, be it lipstick, gloss or some other variation, every day for the whole week.  My goal this week is to show you red lip products that cost $18 or less.  I believe that everyone can look good in red lipstick no matter your coloring, your lip size, your race or ethnicity.  Red lipstick can transform your face.  Many women are hesitant to wear red lipstick because they fear it will "look silly" or that it's "too high maintenance"  to that I say, BULL!  Red lips can be as easy and carefree as your soul or as prim and proper as your upbringing, or as hot and sexy as your real self actually is!

For day two of Red Lips Week for $18 and under I bring you the polar opposite of the Boots No7 Lipstick I showed you yesterday.  Today I have for you Kat von D for Sephora Foiled Love Lipstick icon in Adora.

Now I'm going to come out and say this right now. I really don't believe Kat von D has a lot of say with the cosmetics in this line. It's basically the Sephora brand that they stick KvD initials on and wham bam rock & roll with an attitude is automatically assumed.  Regardless of what one might think about Sephora's marketing tactics or of Miss von D herself, I have to say that some products are actually fairly good in this line.  I have 2 of the discontinued liquid liners and they are awesome.  I'm sad they didn't keep these around.  Now my 2nd "I like it" product is the Foiled Love lipsticks.  I have to wonder if they came up with the name "Foiled Love" before or after Kat von D's messy breakup with biker Jesse James? It's kind of a double entendre if they came up with the name AFTER the breakup.  But I digress.

What is Foiled Love Lipstick?  "Foiled Love Lipstick makes your lips look like they're gift-wrapped in colored metallic foil." According to Sephora.  They're right. Foiled Love is as Drag Queen as you can get without manually applying glitter to your lips. Sorry if that's not one of your personal goals...but it is one of mine. The finish is metallic  AWESOME METALLIC!  Like you just drank liquid red mercury without all the nasty side effects.... like death.

Hot damn if this line doesn't come in some awesome shades! 6 shades in total. 2 in Red. I got Adora which is described as a metallic candy apple red. LOVE! They also offer Beranice (metallic poppy red), Forever & Never (metallic golden peach), F.T.W. (metallic cranberry rose), Oh My Goth (metallic deep amethyst with iridescent micro glitter) and Valentine (metallic hot pink with iridescent micro glitter).  I can get over the insipid names because the colors sound so amazeballs!

The feel of the lipstick is a tad dry, but that's to be expected with this type of finish.  I doubt you will be wearing this during the day.  Mostly the nightclub circuit will see this on your lips, but you'll be drinking a Dirty Martini anyway, so you probably won't notice the slight dryness.  According to Sephora, the Kat von D Foiled Love lipstick contains natural moisturizers and anti-aging ingredients such as Castor Seed Oil, Hydrogenated Polydecene and Vitamins A, C and E.  This is a long wear formula so fading may be a tad uneven depending on how you have prepped your lips prior to application.  I suggest a good lip scrub and lip balm (blotted), filling in your lips with a matching liner then application of the Foiled Love Lipstick.  That way, when it fades, and it won't fade very fast because it is so long wearing, it will fade more evenly.

Do you NEED this?  YES!  But only if you're going out at night or have some really cool job where you can get away with metallic lips.  This lipstick retails for $18 (The top of my $18 and less scale) and can be purchased from Sephora.com

  1. Love this! And I work in a kitchen and wear red lipstick all the time despite the fact that I have to wear a godawful uniform and a freakin' hair net, not to mention the tragedy that most of my coworkers show up completely sans makeup every day. I figure if I've got the balls to do that, adding a bit of metallic is no problem. At this point, I might as well amp it up a notch and enjoy it. It will be to spite my required skid-proof shoes. :) And because my husband works nights and I have nowhere to go after the sun goes down.

  4. Red lips to me are an instant-pick-me-up! I just got a haul in from Morgana Cryptoria (OMG!) but I've been eying these KvD foil lipsticks for such a while! There's a set I think I'm gonna ask for for Christmas since it's got 5 of 'em and it's less than $30. Heck yes! This review just screamed "GET IT!" to me.

  5. While I LOVE this lipstick, and it was the first red I ever purchased and wore, I had to take it back. That clear bit on the bottom of the tube? Prone to breakage. So when my purse had loads of red sticky gunk all over the place it had to go back... *sigh* It's pretty, though. I guess if you don't plan on keeping it in the bottom of your purse it's ok. I need a more durable container though.

  7. I keep going back and forth on these, wondering if they'd look spectacular or like a frost lipstick on steroids. I'm particularly drawn in by this one and "Oh My Goth" (although I could never tell anyone that's what it was called), since red and/ or vampy lips are completely my thing. Your post does make it seem appealing...
