Kose Addiction Eyeshadow in Flashback Review Pictures Swatches

When I read my first review of Kose Addiction Eyeshadow in Flashback back in December of 2009 on The Birkin Bag Beauty Blog, I never thought it would take me THIS LONG to actually buy this beautiful taupe shadow.  But here I sit, November of 2011 and I FINALLY get around to purchasing and posting about this treasure of a taupe shadow.

As you may recall I have already posted about another Addiction shadow by the name of Nostalgia.  From that post you can gain all the knowledge you need about the brand.  But for the Cliff's Notes version, let it just be said that Addiction is a makeup brand from Kose, A Japanese Cosmetics Company.  Addiction is a very high end cosmetics company. The creative director is Ayako, a New York-based celebrity makeup artist and former protege of Francois Nars.  Addiction offers sleek lines in packaging and luxurious formulas for shadows.  I'm sure the lipsticks, blushes, glosses and liners are equally indulgent, but since I have never used them I can't say for sure.  Regardless, Addiction is a brand easy to be come addicted to.  I am already stalking my next few shadows for purchase and plan to add a lipstick as well....some day.

Let's get back to the matter at hand.  Addiction Eyeshadow in Flashback.  Search the web and you will find many reviews on this shadow.  They will all exclaim the taupe-y goodness that exudes from the pan of this shadow.  The fact of the matter is, this shadow by Addiction could quite possibly be the 2nd perfect taupe ever invented.  (Shu Uemura ME Silver 945 is the PERFECT Taupe) The smoothness of the powder and how the metallic look practically melts into the skin is a sign of an ideal shadow.  The perfect grey brown color mixed with superior quality pigments allow for a long lasting true to color, non fading shadow.  The formula allowing for heavy or light application only serve to make this shadow versatile as well as a workhorse in your taupe shadow wardrobe.

Do you NEED this?  Well it's quite expensive...so I hesitate to say you NEED it. But if you were ever going to splurge, THIS would be the shadow to splurge on.  I purchased the Addiction eyeshadow from Ichibankao.com. A cosmetic site based out of Japan.  The darling woman who runs the site offers free shipping and wonderful customer service.  Sadly, for me, the price of the Addiction cosmetics are very, high , ¥3200 JPY per shadow. This was a special birthday purchase for me (yes. I have had this shadow for that long. It's just taken me time to post about it) so I fear that my collection of Addiction will be small. but as small as it is, it is treasured.  A reader commented on my last post about Addiction shadows saying that when she was in Osaka she made a point of looking for an Addiction counter in the department stores.  She managed to purchase Addiction shadows for ¥2100JPY w/tax (approx $26 USD) that's a ¥1100 JPY savings (approx $14 USD) compared to the website. So my next purchase will be when I find someone in Japan that is willing to purchase for me OR when I have a friend going there who is willing to buy for me. Either way, Addiction Eyeshadow in Flashback is a true prize, which I am grateful to own.

Applied lightly with a brush.  More intense color can be achieved by using a sponge applicator or by adding more shadow.

  1. Dang, that is pretty. Sadly, there's no way I'm spending that much money on one eyeshadow, but it does make me want to take a vacation to Japan, just to splurge on makeup. :)

  2. Guh....want.

Hey, we all know you have a ton of taupe shadows, but when are we going to get an updated headcount? I think we should have some kind of poll/prize thing for guessing. That would be too cool.

  3. Jesus dude, I hate you LMAO jkjkjkjk

    My Captcha was "mating" LOL

  4. Wow. Addiction is new to me, although I know about Kose's other brands, having been to Japan in 2008, where I picked up oodles of cosmetics brochures.

  5. Hmm, I may have to take a look for Addiction next time I'm at the mall... I've been wanting to buy some Japanese makeup but I'm a bit of a makeup newbie and since I don't speak much Japanese trying to decide where to start is a daunting task. Sadly most things are a bit expensive here but often it's worth it :)

  6. It is really beautiful....I do think Addiction is high end but it's still slightly cheaper than NARS and MAC here in Japan. Addiction has what I call "flashy" (but in a good way) colours and you would spy few basic matte colours that you would find with MAC...so Addiction feels really special and luxurious...I love Shangri-La, a gorgeous golden pink shadow by them.
