Marc Anthony Dream Waves Amplifying Collection - Review, Pictures

I have naturally wavy hair. When I wash it and let it air dry, add a bunch of product and fuss with it enough, I can get some really nice curls and waves.  It's the ton-o-product and the fussing that I'm not a fan of.  I also love the way my hair looks after being in the ocean.  Granted I am almost allergic to the sun, so going to the beach and ultimately the ocean is not really a regular occurrence for me.  But, on the rare occasion when I have gone to the ocean, my hair looks amazing. It's the salt water and sea air that makes my waves look...well...wavier.  When the good people at Marc Anthony Cosmetics Inc. contacted me and asked if I would be interested in trying out products from their Dream Waves Amplifying Collection, I jumped at the chance.  No. I literally jumped up and down because I was just lamenting about my hair being flat and lame.  This was my chance to have beach-esque hair without that accursed day star ruining my fun.

Marc Anthony sent me:

1. DREAM WAVES AMPLIFYING SHAMPOO - Sulfate free so my precious and EXPENSIVE hair color wouldn't be harmed. This shampoo provides volume to the hair.

2. DREAM WAVES AMPLIFYING CONDITIONER - Another Sulfate-free product!  This conditioner is very lightweight and it helped add body and a wavy bounce to my hair with the Conditioning Polymers in the product.  This conditioner also contains Hydrolyzed Silk, Provitamin B5 and UV Protectors!

3. DREAM WAVES AMPLIFYING LOTION - Sulfate-free again!  This lotion is more like a cream and when applied to damp hair it creates super bouncy waves and curls.  I added some to my hair and scrunched it and let it air dry. You can use a diffuser of you like as well.  The end result is soft hair, more body and soft waves and curls.  Nothing crunchy about this lotion.

4. DREAM WAVES BEACH SPRAY - This Sulfate-free texturizing spray really is the catalyst in creating that tousled look for your hair like you just emerged from a day in the sun.  This is like an ocean in a bottle...except it doesn't have sand and seaweed floating in it. (Always a plus)

Overall I found the Dream Waves Amplifying Shampoo and Dream Waves Amplifying Conditioner to work very well. The 2 products did not dry out my hair they did give my hair more body and the color wasn't stripped out by using this product.  Overall after using these products my hair looked shiny and healthy.
The Dream Waves Amplifying Lotion was especially nice as it did add to the curl and waves in my hair but did not feel sticky or crunchy in my hair at all.  It also did not weigh down my hair nor did it feel like it left any residue when rinsed out.

The Dream Waves Beach Spray worked well. It worked just like a beach spray should, however, like most, if not all beach sprays, it contains salt, The salt dried out my hair.  All salt sprays dry out my hair.  This is not news to me.  If you have fine, delicate and/or dry hair, use at your own risk.  If you have hair that has recently had a Keratin treatment or Brazilian treatment do not use any salt sprays in your hair.  Thanks to Kelly from Gouldylox Reviews for letting me know about this!

The one problem (aside from the salt which is unavoidable) I had with the Marc Anthony Dream Waves Amplifying collection is that it all had the same fake coconut scent in the products.  It's not a nice coconut, it's a chemically coconut. I'm not a fan. My hair retained that scent for a long time too.  I wish it was not so heavily scented or that the scent was different.  That's my only complaint.

My hair using only the Marc Anthony Products listed above. Air Dried. No heat styling of any kind.

Do you NEED this?  Well if you have slightly wavy hair, and want more body and more defined waves, then YES!  If you have wavy to curly hair and want even more oomph without having to fuss too much, then YES!  If you have straight hair, well, I have no idea if it will work on you, but at the  low cost of $6.99-$8.99 for the product, it couldn't hurt to try, right?  Dream Waves products can be found at Ulta, Drugstore.com, and other retailers.

Have you ever used a beach spray?  If so, what was your experience?

  2. These products sound really good, I definitely want to try them.

I've used Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray (gave me gorgous waves but like you said above, super drying) and Oribe Wave & Shine Spray (love).

I lke that this is a whole styling line though!

  3. I have wavy hair, mostly when I'm NOT home as the hard water seems to kill the wave, and only on condition that I let it air dry/go to bed with damp hair. (Like I did yesterday night because I was so tired and yes I woke up with a wavy mess on the head).

A good beach spray is what works the best in enhancing my soft curls and keeping them all day. GHD is the best I used, it wasn't sticky, nor making my hair feel like cardboard. The smell was a bit weird, though. I tried a lot of others from the drugstore and they were crappy. I'm currently on the market for something different but this probably isn't sold in Europe and the fake coconut smell... yeah not sure either.

  4. Holy macaroni! Your hair looks great. My daughters both have curly hair and I am always looking for a good shampoo for them and with this being sulfate free it is looking like a contender . The oldests hair is the clue of a new penny and I have no doubt that as much as she loves her curly red hair now she will be straightening and colouring it in ten years. It makes me sad to think about it!

    1. Thank you! Oh how I wish I had your daughters hair. She will inevitably straighten and color it. I had light blonde hair most of my high school years and college and I colored it all the time. You always want what you can't have.

  6. Great review ;) I am currently using these products now for my straight hair & it really does a great job at giving my hair volume & waves. I like using the beach spray because I have really oily hair & this stuff keeps it under control. Although I have to disagree about the scent, to me it doesn't smell like coconut. More like tropical suntan lotion or artificial scent of a pina colada, for me it's very faint & fades rather quickly in the shower. How bizarre it lingers for you! I know I don't have a problem with smelling, believe me- I am a nurse & come across all kinds of delightful odors! lol
    Love your blog!

    1. Nice to know it works on straight hair. I don't get the pina coloda vibe but I think everyone detects scents a bit differently. And yes. I can imagine that as a nurse you have smelled things you wish you could unsmell! Yikes!

  8. I have curly wavy hair and the products I use either leaves no dent or makes me look like I got some birds making a nest out of my head.... And the boo boo part is I live in Malaysia and it is THE country that has loads of curly hair ladies but absolutely NO market of curly hair products!! Effing frustrating. Ooh, and your curls are gorgeous!!! AND I love the way you said Marc Anthony sent you the products.. I totally imagined him handing the beach spray to you! hahahaha

  10. Oh my, I am in love with your hair. IN LOVE. I've never gone that particular shade of red but now I am so tempted (but it falls out so EASILY! CURSES!). I am also jealous that you have a natural wave. My hair is pin straight and I can literally watch the curls fall out of it when I use a curling iron.

I do have a sea salt spray, though; it's the Not Your Mother's one. I use it on my hair when I braid it (which I do a lot, actually) and it helps hold the little waves that come out when I unbraid. For a little while, at least. I've heard very good things about Redken's sea salt spray and am tempted to try it...

    1. I keep the red from fading by washing it w/ sulfate free shampoos, cool water and color enhancing conditioners. I also wash every three days or so and use dry shampoo in between washing if I need it. But I still get fading. It makes me sad that red is so hard to maintain. My sister in law has the same hair as you. Curling iron and curls gone by the time she finishes. :-(

  11. Elvira, I had stick straight hair and Dream Waves actually gave me beach waves! Even just using the spray gives my flat hair a bit of texture. You NEED to try the Argan shamppo, conditioner and serum--it's fab!!!

    1. YAY!! I's good to hear this works on straight hair! I will need to check out the argan shampoo too!

  12. OMG! I want to have that. Rushing out to buy today. Sure, the salt is bad for my straightened hair, but I almost don't care.

  13. Elvira, I now hate you. After seeing the picture of your hair, I began to hiss and I could feel scales grow down my back. Of course, you know I'm kidding (sort of), I still love you, but I WANT YOUR HAIR!!!! I think I'll what Target has on sale this week. ;) ^^

  14. Have to agree that the fake coconut scent is too overwhelming. It's just overkill. That would be the only reason I will not repurchase. The Sulfate-Free is a major plus.
