My favorite summer lip is something bright, something coral-y, something light and something long lasting. OK. I'll admit, except for the coal-y part that's my favorite lip all the time. But let's not get bogged down in details and facts.
I bring you my favorite Summer lippie...er lip gloss...um lip stain. I'm not sure what it is...but this is it.
Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Vernis à Lèvres Glossy Stain in #12 Corail Fauve.
Please excuse the dinged up gold cap. I have had this item in my purse since I purchased it 2 months ago and I never got around to taking pictures of it until now.
According to YSL, do you mind if I call them YSL instead of Yves Saint Laurent. It's just too much typing. Anyway, According to YSL this new lip product "...combines the texture and shine of a gloss with the long-wear of a stain for a truly innovative lip product." I'll give em that. I have never had a lip product quite like this one.
The YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis à Lèvres Glossy Stain has an incredibly lightweight texture that seems to melt onto your lips but still maintain an incredibly high gloss over HOURS* of wear. Oh AND it's moisturizing as heck. I never ever felt like my lips were drying out or that they needed retouching.
The color is PERFECT for Summer 2012 or any summer for that matter. The shade is the perfect coral pink without being too "This was supposed to be bright red but it oxidized on my lips and now I look like a nuclear pumpkin" orange and not too "I live in a retirement home and this is the only lipstick the nurse will let me wear" pink.
The applicator is different. It's not necessarily "
yonic" but it's not a doe foot or paddle either. Whatever you want to call the shape, it works! The slanted tip and flocking allows for precise and flawless application. For a more natural look I apply one coat starting from the center of the lower lip and brush outwards. Then I repeat the same process for the top lip. For more opaque coverage I apply the same way but then go over it again and dab the color onto the lips. It will level out after a little while. What I NEVER do is mash or press my lips together to spread the product. This will only make a mess and result in patchy uneven application.
Do you NEED this? Well for $32 USD you don't get a lot of product, but it is the most unique, long lasting, glossiest lip product I own. Also this specific color, #12 Corail Fauve, is Superawesometastic! So ummm. Yeah. You NEED it. I purchased this at Neiman Marcus. You can order it though the web or you can call Kathy Shoreman and place an order over the phone at 571-533-4972.
*hours of wear when not eating and drinking using a straw. Let's be realistic. This will come off on your coffee cup, but if you are attending a play or pay date this stuff will shine like nobody's business for several hours!

I am in love with the Glossy Stains! I think I've reviewed 13 and 14 so far. I can see myself owning literally every single shade by this winter, and possibly abandoning regular lipsticks altogether. I have #12 and adore it, but sadly I've misplaced it---and I think it looks better on you! I need to work on my technique to get that great sheer look. I always end up applying 2 coats and get more of an opaque finish.
ReplyDeleteI can see myself owning every single shade too Shannon1 I hope you find your #12 again. I have dome that with lipstick. They always end up in some random purse I forgot I used.
DeleteThe Glossy Stains are so awesome! I have this shade in my untried... need to dig it out fo sho. Thanks, lips ;)

DeleteThis is a wonderful summer shade! I'm a big fan of gloss/stain combos as well. The staying power is incredible. I love to sip on my coffee, so many products wear off too quickly!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like it too! Isn't it awesome to have a shiny lip product last past your morning cuppa!?
DeleteI had thought a lot of blogs had overlooked the awesome YSL glossy stains, so I'm pleased to see a few in the lippie wars. . I have #12, but I'm not loving it as much as #15 rose vinyl. I can see myself hitting pan, its getting so much love.
