Real Colors Regal Eyes Embellished Eye Shadow in Poker Face - Review, Pictures, Swatches

It's not that I'm a big fan of Lady Gaga, nor do I hate her music. I'm indifferent.  She has a great voice and many of her songs are "catchy"  I have nothing negative to say about her.  Well...except for one thing.  That song "Poker Face". Ugh. It's what I call an "Ear Worm" It gets in your head and you can't get it out.

Well I made the mistake of picking up a taupe eyeshadow...Oh wait. Let me rephrase that.  I had the good judgement to pick up a taupe eyeshadow.  I had even better judgement to pick one up from Sally Beauty Supply for only $7.69! The brand is called Real Colors and it seems to have a decent array of products, This might be a Sally Beauty Supply House Brand but I'm not sure. The mistake I made, was looking at the name of the shadow. The name is "Poker Face".

Now I will say that despite the ear worm, I'm pretty pleased with this shadow. It is about as hard as a MAC shadow, not too powdery and has a slight satin finish.  However, it can look matte at times.  It has a light overspray that disappears the first time you use the shadow, but even after that the shadow alone is very pretty.  The pigmentation is decent. It's not the most pigmented taupe shadow I own, but it certainly isn't the least.

The color is that of a soft pinky brown taupe.  It has a slightly warmer feel than some of the grey based taupes and can hold its own as a wash of color or as a base with a darker crease color added.

If I have any qualms with the shadow I would have to say it is 3 things:
1) The Packaging is kinda flimsy and cheap
2) The Name, OBVIOUSLY!
3) The picture of the shadow on the Sally Beauty Supply website is reversed with another color called "Ace High".   If you don't have a Sally's near you and you need to purchase on-line,  order Poker Face, but remember it won't look like the picture.  You'll get what Ace High looks like on the website, and vice versa.  Get it?  Got it. Good.

Do you NEED this?  Well Unless you absolutely HATE Lady Gaga (Note: She has nothing to do with this brand, this shadow or anything related to this item) This is not a bad taupe to pick up for under $8!  It certainly is a lot of product with 0.176 ounces, where as the average shadow has 0.07 ounces.  The only thing that comes close is the Sephora Collection Outrageous Prisma Chrome Metallic Eyeshadow for $16 with 0.12 ounces.  If I had to pick between the two, I would go with the Sephora because it is just higher quality all around.

So what do you think?  Is this a good "pick me up" for days when you're feeling blah and need some inexpensive retail therapy?  I think so.

And now I leave you with the entire video because, well, let's face it, you have that song in your head now.  Might as well hear the whole thing.  Right?

Please don't hate on me for giving you an ear worm!  Muwahahahahaha (evil laugh)

  1. I cannot stand Lady Gaga and now you've got the song in my head :(

    It's a pretty eyeshadow though.

  2. Puh puh puh puh poker face puh puh poker face! Yep, that's stuck in there for at least a few hours. Thank you very much for that :-P

As for the eyeshadow, I really like the pattern on it, but as far as the color goes it's not something that makes me go all ooh or aah. Or ma ma ma maaah ;-)

  3. The new line of Sephora singles (that you can pop out into a little palette) has some AMAZING taupes! Cashmere Coat in particular is an awesome matte taupe. You should review those next!

  5. Every time someone mentions poker face or lady gaga, I hear Cartmens version of it, so it's not too bad. I actually get a good laugh!

  6. The best antidote to Poker Face is Monster Gaga, which took me some searching before I remembered it's on the Cookie Monster SNL audition tape. I'm not sure if posting links here is allowed but if you search for "Cookie Monster Hosts SNL" you'll find it.

Also, welcome back, Elvira! We missed you around here.

  7. When we first met, you introduced me to a line named Rouge Bunny Rouge, and its "must have" taupe "Solstice Halcion". I paid $8 for a foundation sample, (Paula's Choice charges 80 cents for hers) and almost $30 for a tiny eyeshadow, that, as soon as I opened it, appeared lilac gray. Of course, I couldn't stop myself from swatching it on my hand, rendereing it non-refundable at Zuneta (a previously unheard of beauty site). Thankfully, my daughter (14 and quite the opposite of her mother, a make up non-affictionado) thinks its gorgeous, and noting that it is exactly like one of the invisible sparkly shades in this summer's Bobbi Brown Twighlight eye pallette,I have been able to work it into some eye designs. Mostly because it is very light, and the texture is positively silken. However, I no longer trust my monitor to see taupe as you and other bloggers do. I immediately checked several blogs that swatched and recommended Solstice Halcion after receiving it. It is not the brownist of taupes in the swatches, but certainly not thte gray lilac that I see on my hand. I hold you blameless, I contro where my credit card goes, but I must restrain it from pursuing taupe as avidly as you do, although I'd love to, as I have NO room in my bathroom, and a husband with a limited understanding of this obsession. Thank you for the introduction into this new and sensual world, glad you're back on your feet again, here's to a year where Rouge Bunny Rouge appears in a store near home where swatching does not have to be a think that Ga Ga dreams are made of!!!

  8. Well, you've done it. I'm now on a taupe eye shadow shopping spree. I see a new eye shadow product I want and I'm immediately drawn to the most taupe shade in the line. It is not until I get home that I realize it is almost the same as 5 or 6 other eye shadows I already own! But can taupe really ever be the same? Is there a PERFECT taupe? I guess I am now joining you on the quest. D*mn you, Pink Sith!

In all seriousness - love your blog, girl! :)

  11. Poker Face looks like a good neutral shadow - maybe I should pack it in my travel cosmetic bag when I go to Vegas. I could be the only one at the poker table not wearing shades - so I can show off this cool new shadow.
