When I found out about the new NARS Satin Lip Pencils I was
a) Excited - Helloo, new makeup!!!!
b) Apprehensive - I'm not a fan of having to sharpen lip pencils
c) Unconcerned about b) because of a)!
I have three colors to review today, and I will do my best to describe the colors. But before I do that I have to tell you about the texture, pigmentation and quality of the new NARS Satin Lip Pencils.
If you would like more detail, I suppose I could tell you that the pencils glide over your lips like fairies skating on ice made from unicorn spit. So silky, so creamy, so incredibly lush. It's amazing how nice these pencils feel against the skin. Even when swatching them on my arms they felt sleek and luxurious. What I admired most about the texture is that the "lead" in the pencil was not overly soft or smushy (It's a word I made up). The product itself retained it's shape for the most part, without breaking off, getting squashed under the pressure of application, or melting away on the first application, or second, or third. I also suppose I could tell you about the pigmentation. While I was used to more glossy type lip pencils, these three I received were power packed with a pigmented punch of paramount proportions. If a makeup product causes me to go all alliterative, you know it's good! And lastly I suppose I could tell you about the quality of the pencils. Like the weight of the pencil is light as a feather and the lipstick feels light as a feather upon the lips. The longevity of the color on the lips is equal to a satin lipstick, and the red color lasted throughout breakfast with no need for touch ups. The product itself was moisturizing, and my lips never felt dry or in need of extra moisture. In other words, These NARS Satin Lip Pencils ROCKED MY SOCKS OFF! Well my socks actually came off because I was at home and I was wearing flip flops, but that's besides the point.
|Left to Right: Lodhi, Yu, and Majella|
On to the colors.
Let me start with my least favorite, but possibly your new favorite color called Lodhi. It is described as a "Vibrant Coral", but on me it looked just plain orange. And not very flattering. However I must say that may pinks end up looking orange on me, so it is no surprise that a coral turned orange on me too. It might look amazing on you, so I recommend searching for other blogs with swatches to see if their coloring made a difference in the way the color looked.

I think this color was named after the Lodhi Gardens which is a park in Delhi, India. It is spread over an expansive 90 acre and contains many monuments and tombs of revered Hindu and Indian leaders/rulers. The Lodhi The gardens are described as beautiful and serene and is a popular destination for morning walks for those living in Delhi.
Next we have a color that I think MANY will adore. It's called Yu. Described as "Shocking Pink" this almost neon color is opaque in one application on the lips. The color is so bold and so bright that a very plain face of makeup would complement this best. However, if you really wanted to do it up, a deep black smoldering eye coupled with this hot pink would be amazing for a club.

I'm not entirely sure how Francois Nars picked this name, but I like to think that Yu is named after the Tibetan Ü (pronounced w-yu, similar to English word "we") which is a historical region in Tibet. With Tsang, it forms Central Tibet a.k.a. Ü-Tsang. Ü is where the Dalai Lama has his seat at Lhasa, and is considered to be the center of Tibetan civilization, from historical, cultural, political and economic perspectives.
Lastly, and not least-ly we have Majella. Described as "Garnet", this is the warmer of the red colors, but for some reason kept showing up cooler on me. I think it was the lighting in my home. Either way, this deep and sensuous, red/garnet reminds me of a good Claret wine. It's silky and deep and strong. The color wears so well I was able to drink my morning cuppa along with a cherry pop tart (gross, I know) and still my Majella colored lips were looking perfect.

The Majella (or Maiella) a mountain range in the Central Apennines, in Abruzzo, located in central Italy. The highest peak of the Majella measures about 9,163 feet/2,793 m, and that is the second highest peak of the entire Apennine range. It's also BEAUTIFUL, and the Abruzzo region of Italy lies along the Adriatic Sea part f the peninsula and is best known for Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, a red wine made from the Montepulciano wine grape prevalent in the region.
Do you NEED these? YES! If you like pencil lipsticks that won't get squashed upon first application. YES! If you like a wider range of colors (13 currently). And YES! If you're just a fan of NARS, these happen to be the best lip pencils I have ever used. And coming from someone who doesn't really care for lip pencils, that means a lot. NARS Satin Lip Pencils retail for $25 USD and can be found online at narscosmetics.com and sephora.com
What say you? Any colors you are interested in?
Do you like the look/angle of this lip swatch? I was thinking I might take all lip pictures like this in the future. They are easier to edit, and I like the shape. But if you prefer full frontal lips I'm cool with keeping things status quo.
