A Busy Mom's 15 Minute Makeup Routine

A-Busy-Mom's-15-Minute-Makeup-Routine-on-PinkSith

I wake up at 5:15 every morning and have to be out the door by 7:00 am. Most of you are thinking that an hour and 45 minutes is plenty of time to get ready...and you're right, but I also have to get Darthypie dressed and fed, make my breakfast and do some blogging all before I go to work.  That leaves me exactly 15 minutes to do my makeup.

Oh I should also mention I am NOT a morning person and waking up is difficult for me. My alarm clock, even with the Hello Kitty design, is still the bane of my existence. I'm going to walk you though the steps I take in the morning to get ready

5:15 AM: Hit snooze button on Hello Kitty Alarm Clock.

5:24 AM: Turn off alarm and curse the fact that you hit the snooze button.

5:25 AM: Trip over laundry basket and/or cat while walking into the bathroom.

5:26 AM: Brush teeth while swiping a Shiseido cotton pad soaked with Bioderma Micellar Water (This stuff removes the night's gunk and face cream and needs no rinsing!) Then apply Algenist Eye Renewal Balm whilst brushing teeth!

5:28 AM: Almost gag while brushing tongue

5:28 AM: Clean Beauty Blender sponge with Daiso Detergent for Makeup Sponges (It's easier to clean the makeup off sponge if the sponge is dry).

5:29 AM: Curse how late it is. Fantasize about winning lottery so I don't have to go to work anymore.

5:30 AM: Mix 2 pumps of Kiehl's Skin Rescuer Daily Hydrator with 1 pump of ARDENCY INN Americana Custom Coverage Concentrate on the back of my hand. Use my Beauty Blender sponge to apply and blend. This way I get a tinted moisturizer and can skip the step of moisturizing separately!

5:32 AM: Dispense 1/2 to 1/4 of a pump of ARDENCY INN Americana Custom Coverage Concentrate (unmixed) to the back of my hand and use as a concealer.  Apply using my Sephora Pro Airbrush Concealer Brush #57 to under eyes and spot cover any blemishes.

5:33 AM: Apply NARS Matte Multiple in Laos to cheeks and smooth over lips. Silently judge my fat face.

5:34 AM: Darken eyebrows using Anastasia Beverly Hills Caramel Brow Powder Duo (This could have been avoided if I had visible eyebrows rather than these blonde ones that no one can see! *Shakes fist at my genetics*).

5:35 AM: Apply combo eyeshadow and primer Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Sin. (two products in one! No eyeshadow needed. Sometimes I'll add a crease color from a Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Color)

5:36 AM: Apply Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Perversion. (I have been applying a cat eye with liquid liner for over 20 years It only takes me a minute to get perfection. Practice makes perfect!)

5:38 AM: Apply Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder all over face to set.

5:39 AM: Curl lashes and apply L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Butterfly Washable Mascara in Blackest Black. Fantasize about getting eyelash extensions.

5:41 AM: Seal makeup with Ben Nye Final Seal Makeup Sealer Spray.

5:42 AM: Brush Hair (I wash my hair 2 times a week and take showers before bed).

5:43 AM: Contemplate running away and living off the grid in the Pacific Northwest.

5:44 AM: Get dressed (Outfit picked out the night before).

5:45-7:00 AM Make breakfast and lunch for myself, edit photos or write outlines for posts, wake up, dress and help feed Darthypie, kiss Darthypie and Mr. Sith goodbye. Apply Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Rapture in the car (NOT WHILE DRIVING!!) and leave for work.

Basically from 5:26 AM to 5:41 AM I am "getting my face on". That means 15 whole minutes is spent on skincare and makeup. I can do it in 10 minutes if I don't have to be at work because I skip the foundation, and eyeliner and just go with concealer and powder. But I never get up that early on a day I don't have to work so the point is moot.

So maybe it's not the fastest time, but it's the most efficient...Of course, it would be even more efficient if I didn't hit the snooze button. That's 9 minutes of extra time I would have in the morning.  I'll try to work on that.

  2. I need and hour and a half and I don't have anyone else to get ready except for myself, so respect for getting your little man ready AND doing some blogging work before you're out the door in the morning! Nice routine, sounds easy and quick enough.

  3. I just bought that Ardency Inn and now I'll try it with the Kiehl's, thanks for the great idea. Snooze buttons were made for a reason!

  5. Ah, I remember those days of corporate job, child, and the morning scramble to be productive. You seem to have it down! BTW, LOVE your blog.

  8. It's amazing how much more you can squeeze in when you have those extra 9 minutes - as I well know since invariably I hit the snooze button as well. I just take care of me but I need time to pull myself together and I am distinctly antisocial until maybe 10am. lol

  9. Hahaha this cracks me up so bad! I also trip over the cats all the time in the morning. It seems like they're always so happy to see their human that they have to circle around your feet!

You can actually get A LOT done in 15 minutes! I'd probably use a light, shimmery cream shadow on my eyes, but now I have to look into UD Sin!

  10. I am convinced that even if I apply mascara daily for 20 years, I will *still* stab myself in the side of the nose and the inner corner of my eyelid at least once, and have to clean up the smudgy black mess. :-P Respect for perfecting your eyeliner!
Also, that custom coverage concentrate is such a neat idea!

  11. YAY!!!!! Glad it worked for you! ♥

  12. I have no kids and don't even spend 15 minutes on my makeup in the mornings. More like 5-10. And I wear a full face of makeup. Most women I know with kids aren't going to spend 15 minutes on makeup in the mornings. Maybe 5.

  13. Haha I loved this! I don't even have an excuse--I don't have kids, and I don't get up at 5:15am--I'm just so sluggish in the morning!

  14. I get up waaay too early. Glad you enjoyed the post! :-)

  15. Thanks for your thorough and thoughtful comment

  16. LOL! I stab my eye with the mascara wand at least once a month. The Ardency Inn CCC is awesome sauce!

  17. I don't think cats are happy to see humans. I think they are plotting our demise! LOL I love cream shadows but they don't always stay on my lids. Do you have a recommendation for one with good staying power?

  18. LOL! I am anti social until 7PM! I lurve my snooze button, but I could get so much more done if I didn't use it.

  19. Aww. Thanks! I'm looking forward to the days that my kid can get himself ready in the morning. When does that start? Age 22?

  20. *glares at boyfriend with you* LOL. I actually carry a mini mascara in my purse for such occasions. I have done that as well.

  21. Yes! It mixes really well with the Kiehl's! Love the snooze button!

  22. I can do my maleup in an hour in a half too. When I take time and I'm not just slapping a face on. But I'm so rushed in the morning...:-( I learned to do more with less.

  23. LOL! Melani! You're right. My snooze button is my BFF!

  24. Hahaha oh that's not true :p I've got a sweet, SWEET one here (mind you, I have three in total though LOL)!

I usually wear a primer for extra insurance, but I have discovered a couple of formulas that don't really require one. Maybelline Color Tattoo, MUFE Aqua Shadow, bareMinerals primer shadow, Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow are among those!

  25. LOL!! Love your illuminating morning run-down!! I can never make breakfast and lunch.. i just give my boy his milk, and then entertain him with some old brushes while I fuss over my makeup! It's impossible otherwise!

  26. Hello! Just stumbled upon your blog via Sunny and fell off my chair laughing while reading this post, esp. the gagging while cleaning teeth and tripping on cats part! ;-) I could relate to so many things (winning the lottery, settling off the grid- count me in!); I used to wake up at 5am till a month back but that made me extremely cranky throughout the day thinking of the unfairness of it all. So now I hit the snooze button and sleep till 7 :-P

    ReplyDelete
  27. HI! Welcome. Glad you enjoyed the post. If someone can teach me how to properly brush my tongue without gagging I will be a happy lady! You are a lucky lady to sleep until 7. One of these days I will do that too! :-)

  28. Ohhhh. My son is 7 years old so he is self sufficient. When he was younger I would hold him while I did my makeup..that made me very late and ruined a lot of makeup b/c he would try to dig his fingers into the powders. LOL. I never thought of giving him brushes to play with. That's smart!

  29. What a brilliant idea to mix a moisturiser and foundation together! I'm totally gonna try it next time! How good do you find the Daiso detergent at cleaning your beauty blender? I find it really difficult to clean mine.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hi: The Dasio works WONDERFULLY. the trick is to put the detergent on a DRY BB sponge. smooth it all over where the makeup is and THEN rinse under water. Using the liquid detergent while the sponge is dry is the most effective way to remove makeup in my experience.
